Contractors swung into high gear this week on the Cadillac headquarters project, and Mother Nature blessed us with great weather. We are right on schedule with a number of important initial project milestones. This week’s focus included final soil compaction, foundation work, driveway construction, and installation of temporary construction electric service.
Tim Martin is Wolverine’s project manager for the headquarters project. He took over from Dawn Coon once the project transitioned out of the design phase into the construction phase. The project has been a great learning opportunity for both of them and they are doing a great job.
Our site work contractor finished final grading and soil compaction for the office site right on schedule, and has now shifted to construction of the new driveway. This driveway will serve as construction access to keep trucks away from our primary parking lot, and then will ultimately become our permanent driveway (we will remove both front and back entrances to our current building next summer).
Concrete work began at full speed with foundation excavation; then the contractor immediately began setting forms for footers. We had our first concrete pour yesterday. The job foreman for the concrete crew grew up four doors down, so his crew is well fed eating at “mom’s house” every day!
Wolverine crews mobilized to install temporary electric service from our Cadillac substation. Wolverine crews included Ben Balcom, Ed Straathof, Bill Bremer, Rusty Holmes, Dave Stieg, and Dave Moore, all under the watchful eyes of Klint Weaver and Bob Siekas. This work required Cadillac staff to relocate parking to the back of the office. We need to maintain high safety awareness in the temporary parking area, which isn’t entirely convenient for employees. Hang in there, be smart, and think about how nice your new digs will be next year!
