Today is Administrative Professionals’ Day.  I usually don’t pay much attention to these types of declared special days, and I don’t really understand who gets to declare a special day, anyway.  I think Wolverine’s Administrative staff ranks as exceptional, so today merits a moment to pause and tell them, “Thank You!”

Wolverine and MECA recently hosted our annual Symposium in Grand Rapids.  This once-a-year meeting focuses on speakers and getting Michigan cooperative’s staffs and Boards together to exchange ideas.  Because so many different companies and people attend, our Administrative team gets asked to set up many side meetings, dinners and receptions, too.  Without any question, the Symposium cannot occur without the tireless work of Wolverine (and member) Administrative staffs.  They begin their days early and they work till well after dinner, coordinating the event.  They answer dozens of logistics questions, herd attendees to meeting rooms, dinners, and various events.  They handle all of this with a smile and with professionalism.  The irony is that the better job they do, the less we notice them!

I can say the same thing about almost every important issue you work on, too.  One way or another, one or more Administrative professionals will factor in our success.  Wolverine administrators need to think.  They need to be resourceful to figure out whatever the problem is that we toss their way.  Yet their ability to do this does not distinguish them – it makes them good, not great.  I think what makes our team great is the fact that they take pride in serving you.  This pride is effusive, and their caring shows in their work quality and attitude.

If you ever wonder, “how can I be exceptional?” my advice is to watch a Wolverine administrative person.  Watch them use their wits to solve a tricky problem, or coordinate a logistical mess.  Then watch how they take pride in serving their clients.  Their model works no matter what job you have.  Thanks Dawn, Katie, Deb, Laurie, Ashley, Sarah, Lindsay, and Emma!
