The Wolverine system comprises a complicated machine – 1,600 miles of transmission, 140 distribution substations, 35 transmission stations and seven power plant locations. This breadth of operation eclipses the complexity of many utilities several times larger than Wolverine. What keeps the machine running safely and smoothly?  Wolverine employees.

Yesterday we gathered in Grawn to tour our new Grawn Service Center and have some fun across the road at the Blair Township Park. The theme was Americana, as we dined on hot dogs, Crackerjacks and lemonade before the serious softball and cornhole tournaments began. No one suffered serious injury, although I suspect ibuprofen was on many breakfast menus today!

This year’s event carried on a twenty-year tradition at Wolverine. We get together with as many field employees as we can gather, have some fun, and do a little business. The event allows field employees to get to know each other better, network, share ideas and get some training and updates. It also allows the senior team to meet our new employees and share updates of current events.

Before dinner, amidst a few groans due to sore muscles, I provided an update on current events in our industry and answered a few questions. Most importantly, I got to say thank you. Our field employees continue to demonstrate quality work and drive. They support and engage on our new safety team initiatives. Generation fleet performance exceeds industry norms, and I sense a strong camaraderie.

I can say without hesitation that Wolverine has never had a more talented group of field employees. I am eager to watch our new hires learn from some great teachers. So if you see a field employee today, tell them thanks. And I’m off to find some ice for my joints!
