Last year, Wolverine celebrated a few notable records. We generated the most power in our history, purchased more natural gas than ever, and set several sales and usage records. I also set a new record – one I’m not very proud of!
In early January, my weight reached a lifetime high. I could offer a couple of lame excuses associated with some minor injuries that nagged me throughout much of the year, but most of my real problems came from two sources. First, I stopped my exercise program to which I’d been faithful for nearly 15 years. Somewhere I just lost a big dose of “want to” and let some bad habits creep in. One in particular, too much eating, really snuck up on me! In mid-January I finally had enough and got back to sensible eating and modest exercise, and I can really feel a positive difference.
So I was excited to see so many of you sign up last week for Wolverine’s Warrior Challenge. I like the initiative shown by Heather and Penny to launch this healthy challenge. I like that their program makes you each accountable to your team. I like that we have office and field employees participating. I also like that each day has a new set of modest (yes modest!) fitness challenges. I also get a kick out of hearing your groans about wall sits, burpees and planks, and I love your team names (shout out to my personal favorite, Weapons of Mass Reduction.)
These late winter months always drag, so the Wolverine Warrior Challenge provides a fun way to keep your mind off the winter clouds. The days will get warmer again, and you can have a nice jump start to your spring and summer. Hopefully we can sustain these activities and make them part of a healthier lifestyle and a healthier us. Great job to all the participants and keep it up!
I share your excitement and am overwhelmed at the participation levels. I enjoy hearing the stories and knowing that this is getting folks moving. I am looking forward to the end results. Go Warriors!!
